The Simpsons Boss Says Monopoly Go Crossover Wasn’t Meant To Be A “Butt-Kissy” Brand Deal

The Simpsons are making a major appearance in Monopoly Go, with a limited-time crossover event running from June 3 through July 29. Following their successful Fortnite collaboration last year, the mobile game crossover represents a significant narrative-driven takeover of Monopoly Go, with developer Scopely enlisting The Simpsons’ creative team to craft an authentic storyline within the game.

The collaboration goes beyond typical brand partnerships, featuring a newly debuted animated short starring Monopoly icon Mr. Monopoly alongside Mr. Burns from the iconic animated series. Will Ferrell lends his voice to Mr. Monopoly in the short, adding star power to the promotional material.

According to Matt Selman, executive producer and showrunner of The Simpsons, the crossover was specifically designed to feel authentically “Simpsons-y” while avoiding what he described as a “butt-kissy” brand deal—emphasizing creative integrity over superficial marketing. This approach involved The Simpsons team directly participating in the event’s design and storytelling.

Players participating in the event will be able to explore and build within iconic locations from The Simpsons universe. Rather than simply reskinning the game with Simpsons characters and assets, Scopely has crafted a cohesive narrative experience that integrates the beloved show’s world into Monopoly Go’s gameplay systems.
