A decade later, PlayStation’s cult classic cinematic horror hit Until Dawn is returning with a fully fledged, sun-kissed sequel

Until Dawn 2 has been officially announced over 11 years after the original cult-classic cinematic horror game launched on PS4. The sequel is in development at Firesprite and will release exclusively on PlayStation 5 in 2027, following an announcement at June 2026’s PlayStation State of Play event.

The new game represents a significant shift in tone and setting compared to its predecessor. While the original Until Dawn was set in a remote snow-covered alpine resort, Until Dawn 2 takes players to a tropical island (Akishima Island), creating a starkly different atmosphere for its horror narrative.

The story follows a crew of ghost hunters from the popular paranormal channel “Dead True,” a show that has built its reputation on supernatural encounters—all of which have been completely staged and faked. Everything changes when the team signs a major television deal and travels to an abandoned tropical resort, where they finally encounter genuine supernatural threats and must fight for survival.

True to the series’ signature formula, Until Dawn 2 is a cinematic, choice-based survival horror game where player decisions directly impact which characters live or die. The game is designed as a standalone experience featuring a completely new cast and setting, with narrative elements designed to keep players engaged through multiple playthroughs.

The shift in developer from the original’s Supermassive Games to Firesprite marks another notable change for the franchise, though Firesprite brings significant cinematic game experience, having previously worked on titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain.
