Star Fox-like Wild Blue Skies is coming out this August
Wild Blue Skies, an on-rails dogfighting action game inspired by classic titles like Star Fox 64, has been announced for release on August 13 across PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Developed by Chuhai Labs and Balor Games, the game brings arcade-style aerial combat to a new generation of players.
The game follows Bowie Stray, a dogman protagonist and ace pilot, who leads an elite squadron known as the Blue Bombers. They engage in dogfighting against the intergalactic military forces commanded by the villain Grimclaw. The developers have deliberately crafted the game to evoke a Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic, blending colorful visuals with energetic action.
Wild Blue Skies draws direct inspiration from the golden age of on-rails aerial shooters from the N64 and PS1 eras, most notably Star Fox 64. This gameplay style focuses on directing player movement along a predetermined flight path while allowing players to aim and shoot at enemies, creating intense, fast-paced dogfighting sequences.
The announcement arrives during a strong year for Star Fox fans. The franchise is experiencing a renaissance with Fox McCloud appearing in a theatrical film and the series returning on Nintendo Switch 2. Wild Blue Skies provides players without Switch 2 access a chance to experience similar aerial combat gameplay on their preferred platforms.
