Future James Bond Games Will Be Led by Amazon and MGM

Amazon is taking direct control of future James Bond video game development following its acquisition of the James Bond film franchise in 2025. After the critical and commercial success of 007: First Light—which sold 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, faster than any IO Interactive Hitman title—Amazon Gaming GM Jeff Gattis confirmed that upcoming Bond games will be developed under a different structure.

Because Amazon’s franchise acquisition occurred after IO Interactive had already announced its Bond game project, the tech giant did not hold complete rights to First Light. Consequently, IO Interactive was able to self-publish that title independently. However, this arrangement will not continue for sequels.

According to Gattis, future James Bond games will be “done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios.” This represents a significant shift in how Bond games will be developed and published going forward. Rather than licensing the IP to external developers, Amazon and MGM will oversee production internally or through Amazon’s own studios.

The success of 007: First Light has essentially guaranteed that more Bond games are in development. However, the franchise’s future direction will be shaped by Amazon’s acquisition and its strategic vision for leveraging one of entertainment’s most valuable properties in the gaming space.
