Fallout 76 is finally getting native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions with improved graphics and performance, but Bethesda needs to test them first
Fallout 76 players have been waiting for native current-generation console support, and their patience is finally about to pay off. Bethesda announced that the long-awaited PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game will enter public testing beginning in June. The new ports will feature improved graphics and performance optimized for the current-generation hardware.
The announcement came as a footnote in the patch notes for Fallout 76: Infestations, the latest content update for the online multiplayer game. This marks a significant milestone for a title that has undergone substantial transformation since its troubled launch. Once widely criticized as a “broken mess,” Fallout 76 has evolved into a more complete experience, featuring proper questlines, friendly NPCs, and continuous content updates that have earned it a reputation as ‘Fallout Online.’
Until now, console players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have been running the game via backward compatibility with previous generation versions, missing out on the visual and performance enhancements of native implementations. The public testing phase will allow the community to identify and report issues before the final release. Bethesda’s decision to bring native support to current-generation consoles demonstrates the publisher’s ongoing commitment to the game.
