Final Fantasy 14’s solo only challenge runner overcomes impossible odds again, this time by blowing himself up

RathGames, a dedicated Final Fantasy 14 challenge runner, continues to accomplish what the MMO was never designed for: completing content solo. Final Fantasy 14 is built for multiplayer parties of four to eight players, with encounters and damage checks explicitly tuned for group coordination. Yet RathGames has systematically worked through the Main Story Quest entirely alone.

To make the challenge even more demanding, RathGames refuses to equip items from quest rewards, instead crafting his own gear to progress. This self-imposed restriction adds another layer of difficulty to an already Herculean task.

The latest achievement showcases his problem-solving creativity. RathGames employed Blue Mage abilities—a job in FF14 known for learning enemy spells—to overcome encounters, using explosive techniques to defeat enemies. Blue Mage’s unconventional abilities have proven crucial to bypassing mechanics that would normally require a full party.

While RathGames has maintained his solo-only restriction throughout most of his journey, there was one notable exception: the Crystal Tower raid. Since the game’s mechanics explicitly prevented solo progression in that content, he assembled a group of other solo-only challenge runners to complete it, bending his personal rules only when the game made it technically impossible to proceed.

RathGames’ achievement highlights the creativity and determination of Final Fantasy 14’s community, demonstrating that with enough skill, planning, and unconventional strategies, players can overcome even the most restrictive design limitations.
