LoL Patch 26.12: Upcoming Teleport and Champion Changes

Riot Games has announced significant balance changes coming to League of Legends in Patch 26.12, the final update before the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) patch. The patch will feature multiple champion buffs and nerfs across the roster.

The most notable change involves an adjustment to the Teleport Summoner Spell, specifically targeting its shield mechanic. Riot has been concerned about pro players exploiting Teleport by using it for short-distance teleports in lane solely to gain a defensive shield. In response, the developer is restructuring the shield duration and potency: the shield will decrease from 30 seconds to 10 seconds duration, but the shield value will increase from 30% to 35% of maximum health. This change applies to Empowered Teleport specifically and not just the Unleashed version.

The intent behind this adjustment is to preserve Teleport’s utility in critical moments while discouraging the tactical abuse of the summoner spell for minor defensive advantages during early laning phases. By reducing the shield duration, Riot encourages more strategic Teleport usage rather than frequent short-distance applications.

The patch represents a balancing act typical of League of Legends’ iterative development approach, particularly important in the lead-up to major competitive events like MSI. By making these changes before the international tournament patch, Riot aims to ensure a stable competitive environment while refining the meta for professional play.
