“The difference is not just that you can’t fight back, it’s that you feel like you shouldn’t”: Alien Isolation’s lead designer wants you to “respect” the dinos in The Lost Wild

The Lost Wild is a survival horror game in development by Great Ape Games and published by Annapurna Interactive. Set on a remote island dotted with wrecked scientific bases, the game features dinosaurs that have mysteriously survived into the modern era. Originally announced in 2022, the project has gained new momentum following the appointment of Gary Napper as creative director in 2025. Napper brings substantial experience from his previous work on Alien Isolation, and his influence shapes the game’s core design philosophy. Rather than emphasizing combat, The Lost Wild encourages players to respect and fear the dinosaurs, with design choices specifically making players feel they “shouldn’t” fight back. This creates a sense of helplessness that differentiates the survival horror experience from typical action-oriented games. The development team consists of experienced UK developers with credentials from renowned studios including Rare, Hanger 13, The Chinese Room, and Supermassive Games. Annapurna Interactive recently released a new trailer and shared additional details about the project.
