Michael Jackson nearly made a game called Dark Rim with Enter the Matrix studio Shiny Entertainment

Michael Jackson nearly collaborated with Shiny Entertainment on a video game called “Dark Rim,” according to a recent blog post by studio founder David Perry. The unreleased project would have been a third-person action game featuring an exclusive Michael Jackson soundtrack.

The unlikely partnership emerged when Jackson, a fan of the Matrix franchise, contacted Shiny Entertainment from Neverland Ranch while the studio was developing Enter the Matrix. Interested in playing the game before its official release, Jackson inquired whether that would be possible. Perry subsequently visited the Ranch to demonstrate Enter the Matrix to the pop icon.

During this demonstration, an impromptu collaboration reportedly developed between Jackson and the studio, eventually leading to discussions about the Dark Rim project. While the game never reached completion, its existence highlights Jackson’s interest in interactive entertainment and his openness to partnering with established game developers. Shiny Entertainment, known for developing Enter the Matrix and the Earthworm Jim franchise, was at the height of its influence during this period.
