Microsoft wants AI to help developers port apps for RTX Spark and Snapdragon X
Microsoft is demonstrating at Build 2026 how AI agents can assist developers in porting x86 applications to Windows on Arm, enabling better native performance on emerging processors. The initiative involves collaboration between Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm to establish Windows on Arm as a viable platform for PC computing.
NVIDIA’s RTX Spark and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X represent new generations of Windows on Arm processors designed for workstation-class performance. While these chips can run non-native x86 applications, Microsoft emphasizes that native Arm compilation delivers superior results. According to Microsoft’s data, approximately 90% of user time on Windows on Arm PCs is already spent running natively compiled applications.
The industry partners are leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline the porting process, making it easier for developers to optimize their applications for Arm architecture without requiring extensive manual recoding. This approach aims to accelerate the ecosystem’s transition toward native Arm support, reducing the reliance on emulation layers that can impact performance.
The collaborative push from three major technology companies signals a strengthened commitment to Windows on Arm adoption, building on Microsoft and Qualcomm’s previous efforts to establish the platform. By introducing AI-assisted development tools, the partners hope to address one of the primary barriers to Windows on Arm success: the availability of natively optimized applications.
