Destiny 2 Ending New Content Is “Unthinkable,” Warframe Dev Says

Bungie announced it is ending ongoing content releases for Destiny 2 on June 9, with the Sony-owned studio shifting its focus to new projects. The decision came as a shock to the gaming community, with many players and even some Bungie staff reportedly unaware of the end-of-service announcement until it was publicly disclosed.

The controversial move has drawn criticism from industry figures, including Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford, who spoke out on the OnlyFrames podcast. Ford called the announcement “cataclysmic” and stated that “there is no world where it makes sense” to end “one of the biggest things to hit the gaming industry in the past 10 years.” She characterized the decision as driven by business considerations rather than creative reasons.

The end of Destiny 2’s development reflects broader concerns within the gaming industry about how corporate and financial interests can override player experience and game longevity in the live-service space. Destiny 2, which launched in 2017, has maintained an active player base for nearly a decade, making the sudden end-of-service decision particularly surprising to both casual and dedicated players alike.
