CD Projekt’s New IP, Project Hadar, Gets Extremely Vague Tease via Job Ad

CD Projekt Red has provided its first substantive details about Project Hadar, the studio’s mysterious new IP announced in October 2022, through a job advertisement. The Polish developer, currently focused on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, described Hadar as “an emotional, open-world experience that will stay with gamers” in a job listing for an engineering director position.

This marks one of the most concrete descriptions of the project since its announcement, as CD Projekt has maintained unusual secrecy around the game. Hadar will be CD Projekt’s first original intellectual property, distinguishing it from The Witcher series—based on fantasy novels—and Cyberpunk 2077, adapted from a tabletop RPG.

The job ad confirms that Hadar will feature an open-world design, staying true to CD Projekt’s established expertise in the genre. However, beyond these details, the studio has revealed little about gameplay mechanics, setting, genre, or narrative direction. In a tongue-in-cheek clarification, CD Projekt explicitly stated the game is not a cosmic horror experience set in feudal Japan, poking fun at the community’s wild speculation given the total information blackout.

Development remains in its earliest stages, and the project will likely stay dormant until after The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 release, given the studio’s resource allocation priorities. The recent engineering director hiring suggests CD Projekt is gradually expanding the team, but significant announcements appear distant.
