“We know players want it. WE want it” - Dune Awakening developers respond to lack of crossplay for console release
Dune Awakening will not feature crossplay when it launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in September, disappointing players seeking cross-platform multiplayer connectivity. However, a new single-player mode will be available simultaneously across all platforms on the same date.
Developer Funcom acknowledged community desire for crossplay, telling Eurogamer: “We know players want it. WE want it.” The studio did not provide immediate explanation for omitting the feature at launch but committed to discussing it further during an upcoming livestream, suggesting it remains a priority.
The simultaneous single-player launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S represents a significant expansion for the game. While the lack of cross-platform multiplayer play has generated community discussion, Funcom’s candid response indicates the developer recognizes player demand and may pursue the feature for future updates.
