Helldivers 2 Dev Confirms Roguelite Systems, Called Planet Warfronts, as Part of Big Changes Coming to the Game

Arrowhead Game Studios has officially revealed Planet Warfronts, a roguelite system for Helldivers 2 that the team experimented with before the game’s launch. Game Director Mikael Eriksson confirmed in a detailed Steam post that the roguelite mode will involve dynamic warfronts across planets where players make strategic community decisions. The studio initially lacked the content to properly implement the feature at launch but is now bringing it to the game as part of a broader set of updates aimed at keeping players engaged.

The roguelite system represents part of a major evolution for Helldivers 2’s endgame experience. Accompanying Planet Warfronts, Arrowhead is introducing Galactic War Campaigns this month—replacing the traditional Major Orders system. These limited-time events lasting one to three weeks will feature unlockable rewards and aim to make the game’s meta-narrative more coherent.

The announcements address long-standing player frustrations with Helldivers 2’s lack of meaningful endgame progression, underwhelming community-driven events, and persistent gameplay issues. The studio previously committed to improving communication with the player base, and this comprehensive blog post represents that effort. The updates reflect Arrowhead’s recognition that the popular co-op shooter, which saw increased engagement following its Xbox release, requires substantial evolution in its second year of operation.
