PUBG Creator’s New Survival Game Has Stopped Development Less Than A Year After Launch
PlayerUnknown Productions has announced the end of development on its early access survival game Prologue: Go Wayback, less than a year after launch. In a statement from founder Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, the studio revealed it could no longer afford to continue funding the project. The shutdown comes with staff layoffs affecting an unspecified number of employees, with Greene noting he has “reached the limits of how far I can continue to fund this journey in its current form.”
The studio restructuring means only a smaller team will remain at PlayerUnknown Productions. To compensate players, the game will transition to a free-to-play model in an upcoming update, and refunds are being offered to those who purchased the early access version.
This closure marks a significant setback for the studio, which became independent in 2021 with an ambitious vision to develop technology that would break the boundaries of scale for virtual worlds. The game was intended to showcase this vision, but the studio was unable to sustain the project financially.
