Valve Reaffirms Steam Machine Summer Launch

Valve has reaffirmed its commitment to releasing the Steam Machine and Steam Frame sometime this summer of 2026, following months of delays caused by the challenging hardware market. The company made the announcement in a June 4 blog post that also detailed the expansion of its Verified program to include both devices.

Originally announced in November 2025, the Steam Machine (a console-like PC) and Steam Frame (a VR headset) were initially scheduled for release in the first half of 2026. However, the global component shortage and price surge forced Valve to delay its release plans. In February, the company acknowledged it needed to reassess pricing and still hoped for a first-half 2026 launch, but provided no concrete dates.

The latest announcement narrows the timeline to “this summer,” offering players a more specific release window. Alongside the release confirmation, Valve is expanding its Verified program—a system that categorizes games based on their performance and compatibility on specific hardware. The program, which debuted with the Steam Deck, will now include verification tiers for both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame.

The Verified program uses Proton to ensure Windows games can run on Linux, a key feature that allows broadened compatibility across platforms. Games verified for Steam Deck may also qualify for verification on the new hardware, streamlining the process for developers.

Despite the persistent component shortage and industry-wide price pressures, Valve remains determined to ship both devices this summer, making this the most concrete timeline the company has offered since the original announcement.
