Subnautica 2 studio “hard at work” on new updates as it shares more details on the features its 4 million players can expect next

Subnautica 2 has reached 4 million players in early access, with developer Unknown Worlds sharing details on upcoming improvements and content additions. Through a developer video blog, design lead Anthony Gallegos outlined immediate quality-of-life enhancements and a major 1.1 update planned for the near future.

Immediate updates will include crash fixes, adjustments to predator behavior such as attack frequency and damage, continued performance optimization, and additional resource deposits of silver and troilite. New community-requested features arriving before version 1.1 include proximity chat, emotes, and expanded player customization options.

The major 1.1 update will introduce a significant new explorable region centered around the Collector Leviathan’s home, alongside a new vehicle chassis that resurrects a popular feature from the original Subnautica. The update will feature newly discovered creatures and resources. Design lead Gallegos promised the new content will be “the scariest the game has been yet,” suggesting an emphasis on intensified survival and horror elements.

Unknown Worlds is transitioning from rapid hotfix deployments to a structured update cadence, with the team actively incorporating community feedback from the strong early access launch. The studio has confirmed a two-year roadmap ahead of full release, indicating substantial additional content and refinements are planned.
