Dungeon crawler anime Tomb Raider King gets Crunchyroll summer premiere

The success of Solo Leveling appears to be sparking a new wave of dungeon-crawler anime adaptations, much like Sword Art Online did with LitRPG properties previously. Tomb Raider King, an upcoming anime based on a Korean webtoon, exemplifies this trend and will premiere on Crunchyroll on July 6.

The series follows Jooheon Suh, an adventurer who seeks out God’s tombs—ancient dungeons rumored to contain powerful relics. After being betrayed during a dungeon raid, Suh acquires a special hidden ability that becomes the catalyst for his quest for revenge. This setup mirrors a common narrative structure seen in other LitRPG anime, where protagonists gain extraordinary powers following pivotal betrayals or trauma.

Crunchyroll has released the first trailer for the series, which features impressive visual spectacle including a large-scale CGI dragon, indicating the production’s focus on action-oriented animation. The series includes the opening theme “Showdown” performed by QWER.

The anime is part of a growing trend of dungeon-crawler narratives adapted from Korean webtoons and manhwa. Following the mainstream success of Solo Leveling, streaming platforms and studios are capitalizing on the apparent audience appetite for this specific genre blend, which typically combines RPG mechanics, progression systems, and action-fantasy storytelling.
