Gundam is getting a flashy new action game with Gundam Rogue Orbit, coming 2027
Bandai Namco announced Gundam Rogue Orbit at Summer Game Fest 2026, a brand-new action game launching in 2027. The third-person action title lets players pilot mobile suits (Gundams) in combat, featuring a gameplay style reminiscent of Armored Core and Monster Hunter as players face off against giant alien creatures and robotic enemies.
The game introduces an entirely new timeline within the Gundam saga, positioning it as both an accessible entry point for newcomers and a fresh experience for longtime fans of the franchise. Cinematic and gameplay footage shown at the showcase demonstrated fast-paced combat with heavy metal music backing the action, including melee attacks and strategic maneuvering against large-scale threats.
Gundam Rogue Orbit represents a significant moment for the franchise in Western gaming markets. It marks the most prominent Gundam title to showcase at a major Western event in some time, following the shutdown of Gundam Evolution in 2023. While some players have debated whether the game’s departure from traditional Gundam conventions—particularly its focus on kaiju-style battles—truly captures the series’ essence, others have welcomed the fresh take as an opportunity to experience new Gundam content.
The game is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms, with the 2027 release window giving fans a year to anticipate what may prove to be one of the franchise’s most ambitious gaming projects.
