Nidhogg, Wheel World Devs Are Back with a Vampire Survivors-Inspired Platformer

Messhof, the independent studio behind the acclaimed Nidhogg series and recent title Wheel World, has announced its next project: Blood Dungeon. The game combines elements of two popular indie titles, blending the fast-paced action of Vampire Survivors with the platforming mechanics of Spelunky.

Blood Dungeon is a bullet heaven-style platformer where players navigate through maze-like stages while being pursued by increasingly dangerous enemy hordes. The game features auto-attacking mechanics, allowing weapons to fire automatically as players focus on movement and survival. The core gameplay loop involves constant motion—running, jumping, and climbing through levels to stay alive and evade threats.

To increase their power and progression, players collect three primary resources: blood, bones, and gold. These collectibles serve as the primary progression mechanic throughout each run. The game will offer multiple playable characters, each with distinct traits and playstyles, adding replayability and variety to the experience.

The announcement confirms that Blood Dungeon will include six large stages to explore. This title represents a shift in scale and genre for Messhof, moving from their previous works to experiment with the increasingly popular bullet heaven subgenre, while maintaining the developer’s signature approach to platformer design.
