Monster Hunter Ascendance is to Wilds what Iceborne was to Monster Hunter World, coming 2027

Capcom announced Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance at Summer Game Fest 2026, the first major expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, launching in 2027. The “massive” expansion follows in the tradition of similarly large-scale expansions like Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

Ascendance will advance the story of the Forbidden Lands as players venture skyward to explore floating islands set amongst the clouds, featuring ancient ruins of the Wyverian civilization. The expansion introduces several new gameplay mechanics, including the ability to take flight by controlling bird-like creatures that can hop, skip, jump, and glide across various terrains.

New combat equipment is also being introduced, with the trailer showcasing weapons such as an exhaust gauntlet that enhances attacks. The expansion will feature both new monsters and returning classics, including Kushala Daora, an elder dragon fan-favorite that originated in Monster Hunter 4. The floating island setting has drawn comparisons to Monster Hunter 4’s Heaven’s Mount region, suggesting the expansion draws inspiration from the series’ legacy.

Despite some performance issues and occasional missteps in the base game’s launch, Monster Hunter Wilds has been well-received. Ascendance represents Capcom’s continued commitment to post-launch content, positioning the expansion as a significant update that will extend the game’s lifespan well into 2027 and beyond. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
