Netflix’s Highly Successful Devil May Cry Series Will Return for One Final Season

Netflix has greenlit a third and final season for its hit animated adaptation of Devil May Cry, as announced by showrunner Adi Shankar. The new season will conclude the series’ “Force Edge saga” and mark the completion of Shankar’s ambitious storytelling arc.

Shankar has framed the series as “Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat,” with each season corresponding to a different part of Dante’s epic poem. The upcoming third season will represent “Paradiso,” the final and transcendent section of the classic work.

The series has demonstrated significant viewership for Netflix’s anime offerings. The first season attracted 21.7 million views throughout 2025, while the second season—released in 2026—drew 6.4 million views in its opening two weeks. These numbers affirm the adaptation’s success despite declining numbers from season one to two.

Shankar has hinted that the final season will depart from traditional television structure, noting that “Season 3 is not going to be a normal third ‘season’ of a TV show,” suggesting a format or narrative approach that differs from the previous two seasons. The announcement positions this as a planned conclusion rather than a cancellation, allowing the showrunner to deliver what he has envisioned as a complete artistic statement.
