No Rest for the Wicked XBOX Release Delayed Due to Series S

No Rest for the Wicked’s version 1.0 is launching on PlayStation 5 and PC in October 2026, but XBOX Series S and Nintendo Switch 2 players will face a staggered release window. Creative director Thomas Malher explained that optimization challenges specific to these platforms are responsible for the delay.

The October debut on PS5 and PC marks the full 1.0 release, delivering 100 hours of content alongside a new class system and the final story arc. However, Malher clarified that achieving necessary performance standards on XBOX Series S and ensuring proper Switch 2 compatibility requires additional development time beyond the October window.

The Series S, with its more limited hardware compared to the Xbox Series X, has proven particularly challenging for optimization. Rather than compromise performance or content across platforms, the developers chose to delay the Series S and Switch 2 versions to ensure players receive the full intended experience on all systems. This phased release approach reflects a broader industry trend prioritizing quality assurance and stable performance across different hardware tiers, even when it requires staggered launch dates.
