Three years later, that ‘dark’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin game gets a first trailer, and it’s being created by Bayonetta studio Platinum Games

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, a darker action-adventure game based on the acclaimed graphic novel, has resurfaced after three years of development troubles. Originally announced in 2023 by Black Forest Games and published by THQ Nordic, the project stalled when Black Forest experienced significant mass layoffs that depleted half its workforce.

Paramount Games Studio, the newly formed gaming division created from a merger of Paramount and Skydance gaming operations, has taken over the project and tapped PlatinumGames—the acclaimed developers behind Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, and Ninja Gaiden 4—to revive it. The studio announced the game during Summer Game Fest 2026, describing it as a “AAA action-adventure” that will let players control the last surviving Ninja Turtle as he seeks justice in a dystopian future New York ruled by Shredder’s grandson.

According to Paramount Games Studio’s leadership, PlatinumGames signed on because they’re “huge fans” of the TMNT IP. The partnership marks PlatinumGames’ next action title and represents Paramount Games Studio’s debut project following the company’s establishment as a unified gaming entity.
