PlayStation 5 hardware sales dropped dramatically in the UK last month vs Xbox

According to industry analyst Christopher Dring, PlayStation 5 hardware sales in the UK dropped dramatically by 50 percent during May, marking the largest monthly decline reported in recent figures. Despite this sharp decrease, Sony maintained its market advantage over Microsoft, with PS5 consoles outselling Xbox Series X/S hardware by a narrow margin of just 400 units.

The report indicates that Xbox’s improved performance in May was largely driven by the launch of Forza Horizon 6, which provided a temporary sales boost to Microsoft’s current-generation console lineup. However, this uplift was not enough to overtake PlayStation’s lead, even as PS5 experienced its significant downturn.

The data reflects broader market trends, with Xbox struggling across major markets, including the UK where it recorded its worst-ever year for hardware sales in the previous calendar year. The May figures represent a rare competitive moment for Xbox, though the company remains behind PlayStation in console sales momentum.

This snapshot of the UK market illustrates the ongoing dominance of PlayStation 5 in the region, despite monthly fluctuations in sales figures. The dramatic PS5 decline did not translate into a market share reversal, underscoring the established preference for Sony’s platform among UK consumers.
