Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake announced at Summer Game Fest, coming in 2027

Capcom has announced Resident Evil: Veronica, a full remake of the classic 2000 Dreamcast title Resident Evil: Code Veronica. The announcement came during Summer Game Fest 2026, with the game scheduled to launch in 2027 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The reveal trailer showcased first-person perspective gameplay set in a Parisian apartment, eventually revealing protagonist Claire Redfield, who takes center stage in this reimagined story. The narrative continues the franchise’s tradition of following the Redfield siblings, as Claire searches for her brother Chris following the events of Resident Evil 2 and before the destruction of Raccoon City.

This remake represents the latest in Capcom’s modernization efforts for the Resident Evil franchise, following successful remakes of RE2, RE3, and RE4. Code Veronica is particularly suited for a contemporary reimagining, as the original was known for punishing gameplay mechanics—including notorious tank controls, brutal enemy encounters, and the infamous softlock risk that could leave players permanently stuck without proper resource management.

Originally exclusive to Dreamcast, Code Veronica later received an enhanced port as Code Veronica X on GameCube and other platforms. Capcom’s decision to remake this entry addresses long-standing fan requests, especially given its absence from more recent platforms. Modern players have had limited access to this classic horror franchise entry.
