Saw’s the latest movie to get the asymmetrical horror game treatment and it’s coming from Silent Hill 2 remake studio Bloober Team
Bloober Team, developer of the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake, has announced Saw: Genesis, an asymmetrical horror game coming to Steam early access. The announcement continues a trend of horror film franchises entering the asymmetrical multiplayer gaming space, a genre that has seen numerous titles attempt to capture the success of Dead by Daylight, the most commercially successful example to date.
Rather than featuring the modern-day setting of the Saw films, Saw: Genesis is set in the grim aftermath of World War 1. Players will assume the role of the Judge, a character positioned as a precursor to the franchise’s iconic antagonist Jigsaw. The Judge is characterized as being dedicated to “rehabilitating humanity through pain and sacrifice,” tying into the philosophical framework that defines the Saw universe’s approach to justice through psychological torture.
The involvement of Bloober Team brings established horror game expertise to the project. The studio’s successful work on the Silent Hill 2 remake demonstrates their capability to craft compelling horror experiences. The early access model on Steam will allow the developers to gather player feedback during development and refine the game accordingly.
