Sonic Pico Park is a new ‘indie’ co-op Sonic the Hedgehog game

Sega has announced Sonic Pico Park, a new co-op Sonic the Hedgehog game developed by Tecopark, the studio behind the popular indie game Pico Park. The announcement was made during a special trailer celebrating Sonic’s 35th anniversary.

Sonic Pico Park combines the puzzle-driven co-op gameplay that made Pico Park popular with iconic Sonic characters, levels, and themes. According to the official description, the game will feature “signature puzzle-driven co-op action – all with a Sonic twist,” and promises “plenty of chaos to go around.” Players can expect familiar Sonic characters and levels alongside special gameplay moments throughout the experience.

This marks the first co-op Sonic title to be announced since Sonic Superstars, which released three years ago. By partnering with Tecopark and leveraging their existing Pico Park formula, Sega is bringing an indie sensibility to the Sonic franchise for this new co-op experience.

The project represents an interesting approach for the publisher, positioning a new Sonic game as an “indie game” rather than a full-scale Sega production. This collaboration suggests Sega’s willingness to explore different game formats and development partnerships for the beloved franchise. Additional details about Sonic Pico Park, including release platforms, pricing, and a launch window, are expected to be revealed soon.
