Stranger Than Heaven Release Date Revealed; Tupac Confirmed as a Character
Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming prequel to the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series by RGG Studio, will launch on January 15, 2027 on PlayStation 5. The announcement came at Summer Game Fest and included a surprising reveal: the game will feature the likeness of rapper Tupac Shakur, who died in 1996.
The casting choice raised eyebrows among fans and media observers, as little detail was provided about Shakur’s role in the game. The character does not speak in the trailer, though Shakur is credited by name. Sega has confirmed that Tupac’s depiction is being handled with “utmost respect for his legacy” and does not involve the use of artificial intelligence. Permission for his likeness was obtained from his estate.
Fellow rapper Snoop Dogg is also appearing in the game and was present at the Summer Game Fest announcement alongside game director Masayoshi Yokoyama to discuss the decision. The game is set across different decades of 20th century Japanese history and is shaping up to feature a star-studded cast of celebrity appearances.
