007 First Light officially sells 2.7 million copies, “probably” at three million

IO Interactive’s James Bond game 007 First Light has achieved strong commercial success, selling 2.7 million copies in its first week following its May 26 launch. CEO Hakan Abrak indicated the total is approaching three million copies, with sales tracking “well above forecasts” at this point.

While the game has yet to recoup its development budget, IO Interactive clarified that the often-cited $200 million figure does not represent actual production costs. That figure encompasses broader expenses including marketing, developer bonuses, and future payouts. The actual development budget is considerably lower. Abrak noted that 007 First Light remains “by far” the most expensive entertainment product to ever come out of Denmark, despite this clarification.

The game achieved 1.5 million sales on its first day and has maintained strong momentum throughout its opening week. Beyond its commercial performance, 007 First Light has also been critically well-received.

Looking forward, IO Interactive plans to expand the game’s reach and content. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled to launch later this summer, and the studio has announced extensive post-launch content updates. Additionally, IO Interactive is in ongoing conversations with Amazon—which owns the James Bond license—about collaboration beyond the first year of content support.
