Silent Hill 2 remake studio is back with more sci-fi horror, and this time it’s taking Star Trek to a mysterious, hostile world

Bloober Team, the Polish studio behind the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake and Observer, has announced Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a sci-fi psychological thriller set to release next year. The game represents an unusual collaboration between the horror-focused developer and Paramount Games Studio, bringing a distinctly darker and more mature take to the Star Trek franchise.

The game stars Ro Laren, a Bajoran officer from Star Trek: The Next Generation who also appeared in the newer series Picard. Michelle Forbes, who originally portrayed the character, reprises her role as both the voice and face of Ro. The story unfolds when Ro crash-lands on an uncharted, hostile planet after answering a distress call. The world has become a spaceship graveyard, and an ominous, mysterious presence lurks within it.

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is described as a single-player, third-person action-adventure game that deliberately explores the darker side of the Star Trek universe—a significant departure from the franchise’s typical tone of hopeful exploration. Given Bloober Team’s established expertise in crafting atmospheric horror experiences, the game appears positioned to deliver psychological tension and dread. The announcement was unveiled at IGN Live 2026, with creative leadership from both Paramount Games Studio and Bloober Team.
