Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: 22 New Screenshots Showcasing Its World, Combat, And More

Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest Live, the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy releasing next year. The company showcased 22 new screenshots highlighting the game’s visual fidelity, world design, and combat systems, continuing the graphical quality established by its predecessors.

The game introduces FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitware), a new gameplay system inspired by classic Final Fantasy’s jobs system. This mechanic allows Cloud and other party members to equip specialized suits that grant new abilities and skills while maintaining their core statistics. The Warrior and Black Mage FITS have been revealed so far, with each character having access to four different suit options.

Addressing criticism from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Square Enix has reworked the minigame approach for Revelation. Players previously complained about the high volume of mandatory minigames required to unlock rare Materia and special character interactions. In Revelation, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that minigames will be mostly optional and will reward cosmetic and character customization items instead of combat-affecting gear.

Hamaguchi confirmed that Revelation will provide a definitive conclusion to the remake trilogy’s narrative, though the studio remains open to developing character-specific side stories within the universe. In a significant shift in Square Enix’s platform strategy, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch simultaneously on Xbox and PlayStation on day one, ending the PlayStation exclusivity that characterized the previous games in the trilogy. Additionally, Sephiroth’s voice actor has changed from Tyler Hoechlin to anime veteran Travis Willingham due to scheduling conflicts.
