The Sinking City 2 arrives this August, and there’s a demo you can play right now

Developer Frogwares has announced that The Sinking City 2, their Lovecraftian horror sequel, will launch on August 18, 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The announcement came during the Future Games Show, accompanied by the release of a one-hour playable demo now available on Steam.

The game follows private investigator Calvin Rafferty as he searches for his missing lover, Faye, in Arkham—a flooded Massachusetts town overwhelmed by Cthulhu horrors set in the 1920s. Though it carries the franchise name, The Sinking City 2 is a standalone experience that does not continue from the original game’s narrative.

A significant shift from its predecessor, the sequel prioritizes survival horror over detective gameplay. While investigative work remains part of the experience, it is now entirely optional—players can choose whether to tackle cases or focus on survival and exploration. This more focused design departs from the original’s ambitious but sprawling open-world approach, instead offering exploration within more contained level designs.

The Ukrainian development studio, which has operated through considerable hardships since production began in January 2023, completed the game with a team of over 90 people. The one-hour demo on Steam provides an early look at the game’s opening segment, though it is not available on PlayStation 5. This August release date allows Frogwares to avoid the crowded September 2026 release calendar.
