Yooka-Laylee is back in a SNES-style kart racer from some of the team behind Diddy Kong Racing

Playtonic Games has officially announced Super Yooka-Laylee Kart, a new SNES-style kart racing game featuring the beloved Yooka-Laylee characters. The announcement confirms recent leaks about the project, bringing the bat-and-lizard duo back to gaming after seven years since their last main adventure.

The game will feature classic Mode 7-style graphics reminiscent of Super Nintendo racing games. Super Yooka-Laylee Kart continues a tradition established by many iconic video game mascots, including Mario, Sonic, and Crash Bandicoot, who have all starred in their own kart racing titles over the years.

The development team includes members who previously worked on Diddy Kong Racing, adding experienced racing game developers to the project. A PC release is confirmed, though an exact release date has not yet been announced.

The timing of this announcement comes seven years after Yooka-Laylee’s original 2017 debut. The new kart racer represents Playtonic Games’ effort to keep the franchise active and introduce the characters to potentially new audiences through the popular kart racing genre.
