Bloober Team Says It’s Humbled By The “Many Corpses” In The Horror Multiplayer Genre

Bloober Team and Anshar Studios’ co-developed Saw: Genesis, a 3v1 asymmetrical horror multiplayer game based on Lionsgate’s Saw franchise, represents another entry into an increasingly crowded genre. The game was previewed at Summer Game Fest 2026, where the development team acknowledged the challenges of launching in what has become a saturated market for horror multiplayer experiences.

Michał Gembicki, head of publishing at Bloober Team, candidly discussed the team’s awareness of the genre’s landscape, noting that many previous titles in the asymmetrical horror multiplayer space have failed to sustain long-term success. The team expressed concern about entering this market, as Hollywood continues to license franchises to various studios in hopes of finding commercial success, often leaving developers to manage the fallout when games fail to achieve sufficient player bases or revenue.

The acknowledgment from Bloober Team reflects broader industry concerns about the sustainability of multiplayer game franchises based on film and television licenses. While the horror genre and asymmetrical multiplayer format have shown potential, the sheer number of failed attempts has created a cautionary landscape for new entrants. Despite these challenges, the studio appears determined to learn from past mistakes in the space as it prepares Saw: Genesis for release.
