Doom: The Dark Ages Swaps The Shield For An Awesome-Looking Spear In New Revelations DLC

Doom: The Dark Ages’ first major story expansion, titled Revelations, has been officially announced and will release on July 7, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest, Revelations introduces a new campaign that continues the Slayer’s saga with fresh narrative developments. The expansion features an ice-themed setting and presents a story in which the protagonist is described as “wounded and betrayed.”

The most significant gameplay addition is the Chain Spear, a new primary weapon that replaces the shield from the base game’s combat system. The spear offers multiple functional applications: players can launch it at enemies from distance, use it as a grappling hook for platforming and mobility, reflect incoming projectiles, and execute close-quarters combat. Gameplay footage demonstrates the Slayer using the spear to reposition around the battlefield before deploying secondary weapons like shotguns for devastating attacks.

Beyond the new weapon, Revelations expands the campaign with additional levels featuring deeper puzzle design, new enemy types, and environmental mysteries. The DLC will not be included with Xbox Game Pass but can be purchased separately or accessed through Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade options. The expansion arrives following the strong critical and commercial success of Doom: The Dark Ages, which launched in May 2025 with an 85 Metacritic score and reached 3 million players within its first six days.
