El Paso, Elsewhere 2 revealed with PC Gaming Show trailer
Strange Scaffold has announced El Paso, Elsewhere 2 following the success of the original game. The indie studio revealed the sequel during the PC Gaming Show. The first El Paso, Elsewhere, released in 2023, was well-received and followed protagonist James Savage, a monster slayer who descends into the underworld beneath a motel to confront his ex-girlfriend, a vampire attempting to trigger the apocalypse.
The original game combined a PS2-era visual aesthetic with third-person shooting gameplay that drew clear inspiration from the Max Payne franchise. It was praised for its personal and emotional storytelling alongside its gameplay mechanics, becoming one of the most notable indie releases of 2023.
Studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr. expressed both surprise and excitement about the opportunity to develop a sequel. In a press release, Nelson Jr. reflected on the studio’s struggles during the original game’s development, noting that “Strange Scaffold nearly closed in the process of making the first El Paso, Elsewhere.” This context makes the announcement of a sequel particularly significant, as it represents the studio’s recovery and continued success in the indie gaming community.
The sequel’s announcement comes as welcome news to fans of the original game and demonstrates the growing recognition of Strange Scaffold’s work within the gaming industry. Details about gameplay improvements, new features, or release timing were not included in the initial announcement.
