Fable gets a moody story trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase, coming to Xbox, PS5, and PC next February
Fable has been confirmed for release on February 23, 2027, across Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with early access starting February 18 for those purchasing the Premium Edition. The announcement came during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, where a new story trailer premiered showcasing a notably darker tone than previously shown footage.
The trailer introduces Isabel, the game’s villain, portrayed by Marvel star Hayley Atwell. According to creative director Craig Owens, Isabel is “a driven, powerful Hero on a quest to make right a tragic injustice,” with her character motivated by grief and determination. The footage also confirmed the involvement of Jack of Blades, the original Fable villain, suggesting his role in the game’s narrative. The supporting cast features British talent including Richard Ayoade, Natasia Demetriou, and Susan Wokoma.
The release date announcement comes just days after Microsoft officially delayed Fable from 2026 into 2027, a decision made to avoid direct competition with Grand Theft Auto 6’s launch. This is the first new mainline entry in the franchise since 2010’s Fable III, following an extended development period. The trailer’s shift in tone—appearing darker and more complex than earlier marketing materials—suggests a more mature direction for the fantasy RPG reboot. Earlier gameplay showcases have indicated the title has significant potential, with industry observers noting possible Game of the Year contention.
