Citizen Sleeper creator’s new game is a “fungalpunk” RPG in which you’re a parasite, infecting the lives of people in a city inspired by post-punk Britain

Gareth Damian Martin of Jump Over the Age has announced Signet City, a first-person “fungalpunk” narrative RPG that marks a stark departure from the developer’s previous work on Citizen Sleeper. Published by Fellow Traveller, Signet City inverts the conventional protagonist by casting players as a parasitic fungal spore that infects and inhabits the brains of people living in a dystopian British coastal city.

Set in a metropolis inspired by post-punk Britain—specifically drawing from the industrial collapse experienced by northern UK cities in the 1980s—Signet City features a distinctive visual style blending halftone monochrome artwork with grotesque biological horror imagery. The game’s aesthetic is one of decay and apocalyptic fungal overgrowth, with scenes dominated by dirty industrial architecture and the scruffy aesthetics of underground music culture.

As a parasitic entity, players navigate the lives of their human hosts, influencing decisions and shaping the narrative through their interference in the inhabitants’ daily existence. The game represents Martin’s first foray into first-person perspective design and was hand-drawn by Martin himself. The world premiere trailer debuted at the PC Gaming Show, showcasing the dark, moody atmosphere that defines Signet City’s fungus-infected world.

The title stands out for its willingness to explore entirely different thematic and mechanical territory compared to the sci-fi narrative design of Citizen Sleeper, suggesting Martin and Jump Over the Age are pushing into more horror-tinged storytelling with a distinctly British cultural foundation.
