Star Wars Zero Company, the XCOM-like strategy game, gets a release date

EA has announced Star Wars: Zero Company, a single-player turn-based tactics game, with an official release date of August 27, 2026. The announcement came with a cinematic trailer debuted during Summer Game Fest 2026 activities.

Star Wars: Zero Company is an XCOM-like strategy game featuring permadeath mechanics, emphasizing that “every strike counts, every move counts, and every choice counts.” Players command an elite squad through a gritty and authentic story set during the twilight of the Clone Wars era.

The game is confirmed to be canonical within Star Wars lore, despite its permadeath feature. According to Director Greg Foertsch, the story operates within the backdrop of the Clone Wars rather than directly in the center of it. The narrative focuses on political intrigue and backroom dealing occurring parallel to the main galactic conflict. The game also includes character customization options.

The announcement was accompanied by an IGN Live 2026 panel featuring Director Greg Foertsch and Lead Designer James Brawley, who discussed the game’s canonical status, character customization, and broader design philosophy. The cinematic story trailer reveals additional story elements and introduces key characters players will encounter.
