The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Crosses $1 Billion at the Box Office
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, becoming the first film to reach this milestone in 2026. The animated sequel accumulated this total across 10 weeks of theatrical release, earning $428.5 million domestically in the United States and $571.5 million from international markets.
While The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s path to $1 billion was considerably slower than its predecessor—the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie achieved the milestone in just 26 days and ultimately earned $1.36 billion worldwide—the sequel still represents a major commercial success. It has become the highest-grossing film of 2026, though the film faced some uncertainty in recent weeks about reaching its billion-dollar goal.
Combined, the two Mario films have generated $2.3 billion globally, positioning the franchise as the ninth highest-grossing animated series, alongside other animated powerhouses including Kung Fu Panda, Inside Out, and Despicable Me. Both films were produced by Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment. The Galaxy film opened strong with $190.1 million earned in the United States during its first five days of release in April, demonstrating the continued theatrical appeal of the Super Mario franchise.
