Valor Mortis SGF 2026 Hands-On Preview: A Genuine GOTY Contender
Valor Mortis made a strong impression at Summer Game Fest 2026’s Play Days, continuing to wow industry observers following its showcase at Gamescom 2026. The game has been positioned as a potential Game of the Year contender by preview coverage.
What sets Valor Mortis apart is its bold design as a fully-fledged first-person Soulslike game—a concept the reviewer notes is surprisingly uncommon, as most developers continue to chase FromSoftware’s established formula. The game’s appeal extends beyond its first-person Soulslike niche, suggesting broader appeal and originality that breaks from typical industry conventions.
During the Summer Game Fest demonstration, the reviewer chose to experience new content from a midway chapter of the game featuring newly-acquired abilities, rather than replaying the previous event’s demo. The overall coverage tone is highly positive, highlighting the game’s ingenuity and departure from standard design patterns.
