Surprise! Cult hit Vampire Survivors is getting a new name, Vampire Survivors - First Survivaton, plus a new free expansion pack

Vampire Survivors, the award-winning roguelike, has announced a major rebranding and a substantial free expansion pack. The game will now be known as “Vampire Survivors - First Survivaton,” introducing what appears to be the first entry in a broader lineup of games.

The name change reflects developer Poncle’s strategy to organize its growing portfolio. The studio is establishing “Survivaton” as a unified label for its lineup of “Survivors-like” projects, carefully distinguishing them from the original flagship title. The name is a clever play on words—“Survivaton” is short for “survive a ton,” perfectly capturing the essence of the game’s endless, wave-based survival gameplay.

The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest week. The free expansion pack brings substantial new content: 10 new characters, over 16 new weapons and their corresponding evolutions, a new XL-sized stage, and eight additional music tracks.

This expansion represents Poncle’s continued commitment to supporting Vampire Survivors with fresh content long after its initial release. The roguelike has developed a significant cult following and critical acclaim, and the free expansion model demonstrates the studio’s player-first approach to post-launch support. The rebranding to “Vampire Survivors - First Survivaton” strategically positions this version as the first entry in what appears to be an expanding series under the Survivaton banner, allowing Poncle to develop additional Survivors-like games while maintaining the distinct identity of the original.
