Xbox’s Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are not timed exclusives, as PlayStation 5 misses out on upcoming releases

At its 2026 Games Showcase, Xbox announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be console exclusives, remaining unavailable on PlayStation 5 indefinitely. The company clarified these are “not timed exclusives,” meaning there are no plans to port them to Sony’s platform later.

Both games will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but notably absent from the lineup are PlayStation and Nintendo Switch 2. This marks a significant shift in Xbox’s recent multiplatform strategy, which had seen several major franchises release across multiple platforms in recent years.

Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty outlined the company’s refined exclusivity approach in an interview with Gamertag Radio. According to Booty, “our big multiplayer games, our big live service games are going to continue to be multiplatform,” but single-player titles will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. He emphasized that Xbox wants to reward longtime players while giving new audiences reasons to invest in the platform.

The company stressed that previously announced multiplatform releases—including Halo: Campaign Evolved and Forza Horizon 6—will proceed as planned. When Xbox announces future games, it will reveal platform availability at the same time, avoiding confusion around potential delays or exclusivity changes.

This announcement comes under new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma’s leadership, who has been recalibrating the brand’s strategy. One report suggested Gears of War: E-Day was nearly complete on PlayStation before the exclusivity decision, indicating this shift represents a deliberate strategic choice rather than a technical limitation.
