Amazon Has Identified A Lord Of The Rings Game Idea That Is “Quite Compelling”
Amazon Games continues to pursue a Lord of the Rings video game despite canceling its long-in-development MMO projects. The company had been working on two different MMO versions set in Middle-earth, neither of which materialized.
Jeff Gattis, General Manager of Amazon Gaming, recently discussed the company’s ongoing efforts to create a Lord of the Rings game. While acknowledging his answer isn’t “the most satisfying,” Gattis revealed that Amazon is actively exploring multiple game concepts. He noted reviewing a project proposal he found “quite compelling” and believes could move forward.
The central challenge is determining which game concept best aligns with player expectations and the company’s vision for the franchise. Gattis explained that evaluating different concepts involves deciding what type of game to develop and which approach would be most appropriate for their intended audience.
In an official statement, Amazon reaffirmed its commitment to the IP, saying the creative team “continues to explore a compelling new game experience that does justice to Tolkien’s world.” The company emphasized its close working relationship with Middle-earth Enterprises and expressed enthusiasm about the franchise’s potential.
While specifics remain undisclosed, Amazon’s persistent efforts suggest the company remains serious about bringing a Lord of the Rings game to market, though concrete announcements may still be distant.
