Cassette Beasts 2002 is the sequel to 2023’s monster-collecting RPG, and it’s coming to PC and consoles with multiplayer from the get-go

Bytten Studio has announced Cassette Beasts 2002, the sequel to its acclaimed 2023 monster-collecting RPG Cassette Beasts. The game was revealed at the PC Gaming Show and will launch on PC and multiple consoles, including Switch 2, with multiplayer support built-in from the start.

Set in early 21st century London, the sequel promises an adventure spanning two different worlds with several plot twists. The game features over 240 creatures to discover and collect, a significant increase from the original. A standout mechanic allows any two beasts to be combined together, offering extensive fusion possibilities for strategic depth.

Cassette Beasts 2002 retains the visual identity of its predecessor, combining pixel art sprites with detailed background graphics. The soundtrack includes contributions from Crush 40’s Johnny Gioeli, the vocalist behind Sonic Adventure 2’s “Live & Learn,” adding to the game’s audio appeal.

The game maintains the franchise’s core gameplay loop: using the magic of a cassette player to transform into and control monsters through turn-based battles. Like the original, Cassette Beasts 2002 distinguishes itself from competitors by offering more than just nostalgia—Bytten Studio has developed a formula that genuinely innovates within the crowded monster-catching genre.

With multiplayer support and the expanded creature roster, the sequel aims to build on the success of the 2023 original while introducing new mechanics and worlds for both returning fans and new players.
