Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Has Recast Sephiroth
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has recast the English voice actor for Sephiroth, with Travis Willingham from Critical Role taking over the iconic villainous role. The change was confirmed by director Naoki Hamaguchi in an interview with YouTuber Maximilian Dood following the Summer Game Fest 2026 livestream, where the game was officially unveiled.
Tyler Hoechlin, who previously voiced Sephiroth in earlier Final Fantasy 7 remake entries, will not be returning to the role. According to Hamaguchi, Hoechlin was “unable to return,” seemingly due to a scheduling conflict. Willingham, the CEO of Critical Role, will step into the role and bring a noticeably deeper timbre to the character compared to Hoechlin’s portrayal.
The casting move reunites Willingham with fellow Critical Role cast member Matthew Mercer, who is voicing Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Both actors are well-known for their work on the popular tabletop role-playing show Critical Role.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was announced during Summer Game Fest 2026 and will release in Spring 2027 across PS5, PC, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. The title marks the conclusion of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.
