“Exactly what you want in a mobile device”: I gamed on the new Intel Arc G3 handhelds from Acer and MSI — here’s what to expect

Intel has unveiled its new Arc G Series processors at Computex, positioning them as the next generation of handheld gaming technology. Two flagship devices showcasing these chips—the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ and Acer Predator Atlas 8—were available for hands-on testing at the event.

A key distinction Intel is emphasizing is the architectural approach of these new processors. Rather than traditional CPUs with integrated graphics, the Arc G Series should be understood as Arc GPUs with integrated processors. This shift in perspective represents a fundamental change in how the company is approaching mobile gaming performance, with the GPU taking priority in the design hierarchy.

The demonstration was led in part by Intel Fellow Tom Petersen, who provided additional technical insights during the closed demo session. Petersen, known for his expertise in PC hardware development, helped explain the design philosophy behind these new chips and their implications for handheld gaming.

Based on hands-on impressions, the new hardware appears to deliver meaningful improvements for gaming on mobile devices, with both the MSI and Acer implementations offering compelling options for handheld gamers. The focus on GPU-first architecture suggests Intel is directly challenging established players in the portable gaming space by prioritizing gaming performance as the primary design consideration.
