Rumour: Insider Hints The Simpsons Hit & Run Remaster ‘Is Happening’
There is renewed speculation that The Simpsons: Hit & Run, the beloved 2003 licensed driving game, is set to be remade or remastered. According to VGC’s Jordan Middler, speaking on the publication’s podcast while discussing the newly announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond, Activision has major plans to revive classic licensed properties.
“I think Activision’s next step, and they’re doing this with one very significant one, is to try and bring back some of that licensed stuff, like make new versions of those licensed games,” Middler stated. He further teased that “the one that everyone’s absolutely desperate for is happening,” though he stopped short of naming the title directly.
The gaming community has widely interpreted Middler’s cryptic comments to refer to Hit & Run, which has become something of a cult classic in the years since its original release. The game has been notoriously difficult to purchase or play legitimately due to expired licensing agreements with various car manufacturers and music publishers—a common challenge for licensed games.
The Simpsons Hit & Run has long been a subject of fan petitions and community speculation regarding its return to digital storefronts and potential modernization for current platforms. An official remaster or remake would address years of fan demand and potentially resolve some of the licensing obstacles that have made the original game inaccessible.
While Middler’s comments suggest development is underway, Activision has not made any official announcement regarding the project, and details about the scope, platforms, or release timeline remain unknown.
