Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You just set a rare Crunchyroll record
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, a romance anime scheduled to debut in July 2026, has already set a historic record on Crunchyroll by becoming the first anime series to achieve a perfect 5.0 rating on the platform. With over 20,000 user ratings, the score has remained remarkably steady at maximum across a substantial userbase.
Romance anime typically struggle to achieve such consistently high critical acclaim, making this accomplishment particularly noteworthy. The series distinguishes itself through its format: rather than a traditional multi-episode season, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You consists of 12 compact special episodes, each running only 10 minutes. This condensed structure appears to have resonated strongly with viewers.
Achieving a perfect 5.0 rating while maintaining consistency across tens of thousands of ratings is exceptionally rare in the streaming anime landscape, where viewer preferences typically result in more varied scores. The fact that the average has remained at maximum indicates broad appeal among its early audience. This record-setting performance, achieved a month before the series’ official launch, positions Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You as one of Crunchyroll’s most anticipated upcoming releases.
